Aviation Projects is proud to be supporting the Government of Vanuatu in leading a nationwide community consultation process to better understand the public’s needs and priorities for domestic air travel.
This Government of Vanuatu-led initiative is supported by the Australian Government’s Australia-Pacific Partnerships for Aviation (P4A) program. It seeks to understand domestic air connectivity requirements that align with the needs of all communities, contributing to long-term sustainability and growth.
Domestic air travel plays a critical role in connecting communities, facilitating access to essential services, and fostering economic development across Vanuatu. It is vital that all citizens, including those in remote areas, have reliable access to supplies, the ability to travel for work, and opportunities to stay connected with family and friends.
The feedback gathered through this consultation will assist the Government of Vanuatu in planning and budgeting for air services that meet the specific needs of communities.
Managing Director Keith Tonkin, in his role as aviation adviser to the Vanuatu Prime Minister’s Office, and Jason Rainbird, AP’s Manager - Airports, along with the other consultation team members, have been visiting communities across the country, to collect valuable insights from local representatives.
The consultation will focus on understanding:
- Frequency and destinations of travel
- Suggested improvements for airports and transport services
- Requirements for sending packages and cargo domestically
- Seasonal travel demands, including holidays, work, study and other needs.
