Angela Garvey, our Operations Manager is passionate about aviation, after all, she has worked in the aviation industry for her entire adult life. She is a commercial pilot, aerobatic pilot, and a passionate Aviatrix, who is also an ambassador for both women and girls in aviation.
Angela is your typical ‘people person’ – she is not only passionate about the industry, and the work we do, but she is also interested in flying, specifically aerobatics. She completed her aerobatic endorsement with Paul Bennet from Paul Bennet Airshows back in 2020 and is now training for the 2022 Queensland and Australian Aerobatic Championships.
Angela doesn’t have a single aircraft of choice, instead she regularly flies:
- YAK-55 – a single seat Russian aircraft, with a 360-horse powered radial engine
- Pitts Special S2-B – a dual seat American built bi-plane aircraft, with a 260-horse powered I0-540 engine.
Both aircraft propellers rotate in a different direction, making it challenging when swapping between these two aircraft. Angela said, “You have to really think about what you’re doing with your hands and feet.”
To further her piloting and aerobatic skills, Angela is currently being coached by Jeremy Miller from UPRT Australia. Angela said, “I am motivated to become a more disciplined and proficient pilot. By training for the Queensland and Australian Aerobatic Championships, I have given myself a goal of something I can work towards, that helps me become the pilot I want to be”.
She said “Australia is lacking in female airshow display pilots. As an industry we need to be showcasing women in these roles and showing girls and women that they too can be a pilot. Static displays where we stand around talking is simply not effective, we need to be out there flying in front of the crowds. I hope I can be the example that the next generation of female pilots needs to start considering the industry and aerobatics.”
Aside from her interest in Aerobatics, Angela is also committed to assisting those who need support. She is in the process of completing a Diploma in Counselling with Evolve College, which when achieved will see her work, out of hours, as a specialist Aviation Counsellor. Keep your eyes peeled for more information about the work Angela is doing in this space.
Angela’s interest and experience in the aviation industry compliments the work Aviation Projects is doing daily. Utilising her aviation knowledge in our ongoing client work allows us to add value to the projects we are working on, as well as encourage a greater female participation in the aviation industry.
